What to Expect During Your Free Discovery Session at SoFit Arcadia

Most people do not struggle with fitness because they have never heard that exercise is important. They struggle because they are unsure what to do, have difficulty staying consistent, or keep following plans that were never designed for them.

At SoFit Arcadia, we don't start by giving every new client the same workout. We begin with a free Discovery Session.

This first visit gives us time to understand your goals, learn about your health and training history, observe how you move, and recommend a realistic starting point. It also gives you a chance to see the studio, meet a coach, and decide whether the SoFit approach feels right for you.

Here is how the process works.

Step 1: Meet your coach and see the studio

Your session begins with a welcome and a tour of SoFit Arcadia. You will see our personal training areas, equipment, and the environment where our coaches work with clients of different ages and experience levels.

Although we take training seriously, you will not find the impersonal feel of a large commercial gym. Our focus is coaching: helping you use the right exercises, perform them well, and progress at a pace that makes sense for your body.

You do not need prior gym experience. We will show you what you need to know.

Step 2: Tell us what you want to accomplish

Before we plan your training, we need to understand what success would mean to you.

Your goals might include losing body fat, getting stronger, improving energy, building muscle, reducing everyday aches, preparing for an event, or staying active as you get older. You may also be looking for accountability after repeatedly starting and stopping on your own.

Your coach will ask about your current routine and the factors that could affect your progress, including:

Previous exercise experience

Injuries, pain, surgeries, or medical considerations

Work and family schedule

Sleep, stress, nutrition, and recovery

Activities you want to return to or continue doing

Obstacles that have made consistency difficult

There are no “right” answers. Honest information helps us build a better plan.

Step 3: Complete a movement assessment

Once we understand your goals, we look at how your body moves.

The assessment may include simple patterns such as squatting, balancing, reaching, pushing, pulling, or hinging. We are not grading athletic ability. We are observing mobility, stability, coordination, control, and whether any movement causes discomfort.

This helps us decide where your program should begin.

For example, someone with good strength but limited hip mobility may need a different warm-up and exercise selection than someone who is highly mobile but needs more stability. A client returning after an injury may require a slower progression than an experienced lifter who primarily needs structure and accountability.

The assessment keeps your training personal from the start.

Step 4: Try a few coached movements

Depending on your starting point, your coach may take you through a few light exercises. The purpose is not to exhaust you. It is to let you experience what individualized coaching feels like.

You may notice that an exercise feels different when a coach adjusts your setup, range of motion, breathing, or tempo. You may also learn that an exercise you thought you “could not do” simply needs to be modified for your current ability.

This is one of the most important parts of the SoFit Method: improve movement quality first, then build strength and intensity on top of it.

Step 5: Review your recommended plan

After the assessment, we explain what we observed and outline the next step we would recommend.

Your plan may include one-on-one personal training, a combination of services, and guidance around nutrition and recovery. We will discuss an appropriate training frequency and whether 30-, 45-, or 60-minute sessions best fit your goals, needs, and schedule.

The recommendation is not based on which workout is most popular. It is based on what gives you a realistic opportunity to make progress and stay consistent.

You will also have time to ask about coaching, scheduling, membership options, and what happens after you start.

Is the Discovery Session a hard workout?

No. The Discovery Session is an assessment and coaching experience, not a boot camp.

We may ask you to perform some basic movements, but we are not trying to see how many calories you can burn or how sore we can make you. Your first visit should help us understand your body and help you feel more confident about starting.

Is SoFit Arcadia only for experienced gym members?

Not at all.

Many people come to us because they feel uncomfortable in traditional gyms or do not know where to begin. Others have trained for years but need a more structured program, better technique, or greater accountability.

Your program starts from your current level. You do not need to get in shape before your Discovery Session.

What should I bring?

Wear comfortable workout clothes and athletic shoes. Bring water if you would like, along with any relevant information about injuries or restrictions.

Most importantly, bring your questions. If you have concerns about pain, scheduling, previous experiences with trainers, or whether a program will work with your life, the Discovery Session is the right time to discuss them.

What happens if I decide to start?

If SoFit feels like the right fit, we will help you choose your training schedule and arrange your first regular session. Your coach will use what we learned during the Discovery Session to begin building your personalized program.

From there, we track progress, adjust the plan as your body adapts, and coach the habits that support your results outside the gym. The goal is not a few random workouts. It is a structured process you can maintain.

A better plan begins with a better first conversation

Your first visit to a personal training studio should answer more questions than it creates.

At SoFit Arcadia, the free Discovery Session helps us understand your goals, movement, history, and lifestyle before recommending a program. It gives you a clear picture of what training with us would look like and gives us the information needed to coach you well.

You do not need to be fitter, stronger, or more confident before you come in. You only need to be willing to take the first step.
