Food logging - Is it worth it? Should you do it? Do we practice it?

Food logging - short answer, yes!

Food logging or keeping a record of what you eat and drink, can be an important tool for various reasons, especially when it comes to managing your health and well-being. We as trainers practice some form of this. However, we do take breaks from time to time, but it is a lifestyle we adopted.....overtime and slowly. When we begin working with a new client, we may ask them to try practicing a food log for 3-4 days with an app like myfitnesspal. Here are three reasons why we believe food logging or tracking is important -

1. Awareness of what you eat:

  • Understanding Portion Sizes And Macros: Logging food helps you become more aware of portion sizes and the nutritional content of your meals. This also allows us to see if you are getting enough protein to build muscle, enough carbs for energy, and other key needs for client goals.

2. Weight Management:

  • Calorie Tracking: For those looking to manage their weight, tracking food intake allows for better control of calorie consumption. Awareness is huge as well as allowing us to see what you are eating to help with accountability.

3. Identifying Patterns:

  • Recognizing Trends: Keeping a food log over time helps identify patterns in your eating habits. You may notice correlations between certain foods and your energy levels, mood, or overall well-being.
